During this meeting, state rail officials will engage with key federal, Congressional, Amtrak, and other passenger and freight rail stakeholders on a range of policy and economic issues.
Leadership from the Federal Railroad Administration and Surface Transportation Board will provide insights on the challenges and opportunities ahead for the U.S. rail industry, both from the freight and passenger rail perspective.
For example, the 2025 AASHTO Rail Winter Legislative Meeting examined how a lack of “network growth” is hampering the freight rail sector’s ability to support current and future U.S. economic growth.
Other meeting sessions will examine rail safety developments and updates from Amtrak’s leadership on passenger rail trends.
