FHWA Offers $120M in Transportation Technology Grants

In late June, the Federal Highway Administration issued a notice of funding opportunity or NOFO for $120 million worth of grants via its Advanced Transportation Technology and Innovation or “ATTAIN” program.

That program aims to help deploy, install, and operate advanced transportation technologies that improve highway safety, mobility, efficiency, system performance, and intermodal connectivity, among other benefits, FHWA said.

[Editor’s note: On June 9, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee held a hearing that delved into a variety of technological advances that are helping drive innovation in the transportation sector; including “digital systems” that are helping improve the capability and longevity of the nation’s highway system infrastructure.]

The agency said that eligible applicants for this funding include states, local governments, transit agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, and other political subdivisions of a state or local government, such as publicly owned toll or port authorities. That funding is also available to multi-jurisdictional groups and consortiums of research institutions or academic institutions, FHWA noted.
