An executive order issued by President Trump on June 4 seeks to speed up infrastructure investments while “providing appropriate protection for public health and safety, natural resources, and the environment, as required by law.”
The order also directs the U.S. Department of Transportation to use “all relevant emergency and other authorities to expedite work on, and completion of, all authorized and appropriated highway and other infrastructure projects that are within the authority of the secretary to perform or to advance.”
The USDOT is also required by president’s order to provide a summary report of all projects it expedites to the Office of Management and Budget, the assistant to the president for economic policy, and the Council on Environmental Quality a month from now.
The order also directs the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Interior, and the Secretary of Agriculture to use “all relevant emergency and other authorities” to expedite work on, and completion of, all authorized and appropriated infrastructure, energy, environmental, and natural resources projects on Federal lands.
The order added that the term “Federal lands” in this case means any land or interests in land owned by the United States, including leasehold interests, except Indian trust land.
