A recent video produced by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials noted that motorists are beginning to “recognize the value” of having vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems, commonly known as ADAS.
Research conducted by the AAA Foundation indicates that if every vehicle was equipped with ADAS and those technologies are “properly used” by drivers, it could potentially help prevent more than 2.7 million crashes, 1.1 million injuries, and nearly 9,500 deaths each year.
However, this “Safety First” video – compiled by AASHTO Transportation TV – also highlighted the AAA Foundation’s finding that extended use of ADAS can increase “serious safety concerns” for motorists, too, especially if it contributes to an increase in distracted driving.
