The U.S. Department of Transportation is providing $4.7 billion to support rail projects along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor; funding that also seeks to help “revitalize” key national rail hubs, including New York City’s Penn Station and Washington, D.C.’s Union Station.

That funding – which comes through the Federal Railroad Administration’s Partnership-Northeast Corridor or Partnership-NEC program, part of the agency’s Intercity Passenger Rail Grant program – is available though a notice of funding opportunity or NOFO. Applications for that funding are due by May 5, FRA noted.
David Fink, FRA’s administrator, noted in a statement that “the Northeast Corridor is the busiest and most complex rail line in America” and this particular tranche of funding aims to support projects that upgrade train station infrastructure; streamline rail services; and rebuild rail bridge infrastructure.
The agency also stressed that projects applying through this NOFO must be included in the 2026 version of NEC’s inventory to be eligible for Partnership-NEC funding – a copy of which can be found here.
