The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has appointed Humberto “Burt” Tasaico (seen above) to a two-year term as vice chair of the organization’s Transportation Policy Forum.
Tasaico – the strategic initiatives and program support director for the North Carolina Department of Transportation – is a native of South America with undergraduate and graduate engineering degrees from N.C. State University, a graduate of the UNC School of Government, and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
He joined the North Carolina DOT in 1996 after working for a private engineering firm and in local government.
During his career with the North Carolina DOT, Tasaico held a multitude of positions in the program development branch, information technology division, financial management division, and most recently in the Office of the Secretary as the director of strategic initiatives and program support.
The primary responsibility of AASHTO’s Transportation Policy Forum is to discuss and recommend policies related to legislation, regulation, and other policy matters to the organization’s board of directors, including the association’s recommended positions on reauthorization of key transportation legislation and on ongoing topical issues of interest to state departments of transportation
