On May 19, President Joe Biden noted in a statement that he plans to nominate Jennifer Homendy (seen above) to become the next chair of the National Transportation Safety Board.
Earlier in the week, news reports noted that NTSB’s current chair, Robert Sumwalt, announced via an emailed to the agency’s workforce that he intends to step down on June 30.
Homendy – a transportation industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience – has served as an NTSB member since August 2018.
Prior to her NTSB appointment to the Board, Homendy served more than 14 years as Democratic staff director for the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials within the House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
She previously held positions with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO, and American Iron and Steel Institute.
Homendy received a bachelor of arts from Pennsylvania State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Transportation Safety Administration from the Institute for Global Road Safety and Security at Clemson University
