In the video, McMurry discusses several major infrastructure projects aimed at improving mobility and safety across Georgia, including the $3.5 billion reconstruction of two significant freight bottlenecks at the I-285/I-20 East and I-285/I-20 West interchanges.

Additionally, Georgia DOT is advancing the State Route 400 Express Lanes project – the largest project in the department’s history – that spans approximately 16 miles and features dedicated bus rapid transit stations.

McMurry – who recently received the ITS Lifetime Achievement Award – also emphasized Georgia DOT’s commitment to safety in the video, highlighting the agency’s ongoing efforts to implement safety improvements on both state and local roadways to reduce traffic fatalities.

Those safety commitments include the recent restoration of active Highway Emergency Response Operators or “HERO” patrols in the overnight hours seven days a week for nearly 400 miles of interstate highways across metro Atlanta region as well as the comprehensive “Car and Road Safety Program” for school students from kindergarten through 12th grade launched in March 2024.
