FTA Makes Access & Mobility Grants Available

The Federal Transit Administration recently issued a notice of funding opportunity for $3.5 million worth of fiscal year 2021 grants for projects that improve access to vital services for older adults and people with disabilities, and in low-income communities. Applications for this grant funding is due by December 6.

FTA said that funding – which comes from its Innovative Coordinated Access and Mobility or ICAM pilot program – aims to support public transportation projects that improve state and regional coordination, as well as advance the goals of the President Biden’s executive order on “Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government” issued in January.

“Everyone should have access to reliable, affordable public transportation,” noted FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez in a statement.

“This funding opportunity will enhance transit agencies’ reach for all residents, particularly those who rely on public transportation to access jobs, health care, and other important services,” she said.

To date, FTA has awarded projects under three separate funding opportunities for this pilot program. In FY 2020, FTA selected 17 projects to receive a portion of $3.5 million worth of funding.

A summary of these projects and additional information about the pilot program is included in this FTA report.
