The Federal Transit Administration awarded $423 million in transit infrastructure grants on November 25 to 94 projects in 42 states and the District of Columbia via the agency’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program.

The FTA said this funding supports projects to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses and related equipment, as well as projects to purchase, rehabilitate, and construct bus-related facilities.
“More people travel by bus than any other form of public transportation,” said FTA Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams in a statement. “This Administration is committed to rebuilding our nation’s transportation infrastructure and helping to improve bus service nationwide.”
The Colorado Department of Transportation is receiving more than $16 million from this $423 million pool of grant money to help local agencies fund five public transportation projects within the state, including the purchase of new buses, transit vehicles and related equipment, and construction of a bus maintenance facility.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is getting $17.3 million from this round of grant awards to help several rural transit systems replace vehicles and construct public transportation facilities throughout the state.
FTA noted that it has made available more than $12 billion in funding in fiscal year 2019 through both formula and competitive grant programs to support public transportation.
