Available online and in print, the 2022 edition of the AASHTO Magazine issue includes a wide array of stories from the state department of transportation community.
It includes a profile of Roger Millar, secretary of the Washington State Department of Transportation and 2022-2023 AASHTO president, about how he plans to use “resilience” as a lens to view and define what a safe, sound, and smart multimodal transportation is.
That dovetails with a “systemic approach” that ensures that state DOTs have the tools, resources, and systems needed to reduce highway crashes and fatalities, advance equity and accessibility, and improve mobility for all users, he said.
The 2022 edition of the magazine also contains a feature story on how state DOTs across the country, from Florida to Hawaii, are incorporating resilience into their infrastructure decision-making efforts.
Finally, the magazine offers an in-depth look at the 12 finalists in the 2022 America’s Transportation Awards contest – sponsored by AASHTO, AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – and how those “Top 12” projects delivered economic benefits and quality of life improvements to their communities.
Projects overseen by the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation took home top honors at the 2022 America’s Transportation Awards competition. Awarded during AASHTO’s Annual Meeting in Orlando, those national winners each receive $10,000 cash awards donated to a charity or scholarship of their choosing.
