AASHTO Journal - AASHTO Seeks Construction Materials Production Manager

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, an equal-opportunity employer, seeks to hire a Construction Materials Production Manager; a full-time position with its AASHTO re:source division in Frederick, MD.

AASHTO re:source – a technical service program offered by AASHTO – provides services and tools through three major programs: the Laboratory Assessment Program (LAP), the Proficiency Sample Program (PSP), and the AASHTO Accreditation Program.

The Construction Materials Production Manager position is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and supervising all activities associated within the PSP for AASHTO re:source. Using a variety of construction and laboratory equipment, the manager supervises the preparation of a large volume of proficiency and experimental samples for the soils, aggregates, asphalt mixtures, liquid asphalt, emulsified asphalt, and paint proficiency testing schemes.

This position also requires real-time evaluation of production data to make judgements on the quality of the materials that are being produced and evaluates and approves equipment verifications. Duties also include maintaining PSP data files and records in a secure and easily retrievable manner for preparing the sample preparation schedule.

Candidates for this position should have at least five years of experience in the construction industry or a related field, including the prior use of construction machinery. In addition, a high school diploma is required. They must also be familiar with all sample materials and general material handling processes. In addition, they must possess manual skills and a broad understanding of processes necessary for the preparation of construction material samples in a safe and orderly manner in a laboratory setting and understand key computer operations, such as document creation/control, editing, spreadsheets, etc.

Candidates must also be able to (1) obtain and maintain a state driver’s license to operate motor vehicles; (2) operate a forklift, front-end loader, scissor lift, barrel tipper, drum dolly, pallet jack, and shovel; (3) lift packages weighing up to 70 pounds as many as 100 times a day, and (4) climb ladders.
