The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials – an equal opportunity employer – seeks to hire a program director for environment, a full-time position located at its headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The program director provides leadership and oversight for AASHTO’s environmental programs, including the Committee on Environment and Sustainability and its subcommittees: the Center for Environmental Excellence by AASHTO, the Resilient and Sustainable Transportation Systems and its associated technical services program, and the Environmental Technical Assistance Program.
In addition, the program director works to educates congressional staff, executive branch agencies, and other stakeholders while fostering collaborative relationships between state departments of transportation, federal and state agencies, and the broader environmental and transportation community to develop innovative approaches and identify common solutions.
Candidates for this position should demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible, professional experience in the transportation sector with a focus on environmental issues or in the environmental field with a focus on transportation issues, with at least two years at the federal, state, or local level.
Candidates should also have a Bachelor of Arts or science degree along with prior experience in project management.
