The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials recently renewed its memorandum of understanding or MOU with the North American Association of Transportation Safety and Health Officials or NAATSHO; a non-profit organization that strives to reduce injuries and incidents that cause injuries among transportation sector employees.

Russell McMurry, AASHTO’s president and commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation (in photo above at left), and Jordan Striff – NAATSHO’s president – signed the MOU during the 58th Annual NAATSHO Conference in Chattanooga, TN, in late August.
The MOU renews a “general collaboration agreement” between AASHTO and NAATSHO to work on ways to ensure the safety and health of every transportation worker; promote practices, processes, and policies that prioritize and advance transportation worker health and safety; increase organizational awareness of employee safety issues; build transportation workforce capabilities and educational opportunities to enhance the health and safety practices of individual workers; and collaborate with members, partners and stakeholders to identify and disseminate information on notable and promising practices, technologies, and emerging trends.
The renewed MOU continues the work by both organizations to strengthen the relationship between their respective safety-focused individual councils and committees to improve information exchange and employee health and safety efforts; facilitate peer exchanges of information by convening jointly sponsored webinars or other events; and identify opportunities for members of each organization to participate in the other’s activities, such as conferences, workshops, webinars and meetings.
