Duffy will talk with Russell McMurry – commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation and AASHTO president for 2025-2026 – in a fireside chat to reflect on USDOT’s achievements thus far, outline the agency’s future goals, and explore how state DOTs can remain strong partners with the USDOT in serving the American people.

The Washington Briefing will also feature a “Federal Leadership Roundtable” where several modal administrators – such as from the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Railroad Administration, among others – will discuss how they are focused on shaping future surface transportation policy.

Congressional leadership will also share their thoughts on current and future transportation policy developments, including Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO), chair of the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA), ranking member of the House T&I committee; Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works; and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), ranking member of the Senate EPW committee.

The Washington Briefing will also feature a state DOT CEO roundtable on surface transportation reauthorization principles, along with several knowledge sessions focused on how states are exploring and adopting expanded responsibilities traditionally held by the Federal Highway Administration; how states are tapping into a variety of federal and state funding sources to increase commercial truck parking resources in their respective regions; and a discussion of AASHTO President McMurry’s emphasis areas regarding reauthorization, safety, and project delivery
