AASHTO re:source is a technical service program offered by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials that provides services and tools through three major programs: the Laboratory Assessment Program, the Proficiency Sample Program or PSP, and the AASHTO Accreditation Program.

Greg Uherek, AASHTO re:source’s manager of business development and technical services, joins the podcast to provide an overview of this specifier feature, as well as a “walk through” of the evolution of laboratory monitoring over the years that culminates in a review of some of the cutting-edge specifier tools now used to enhance transparency and accountability.

Uherek offers insights on that transformation, revealing how features like mapping and real-time alerts have made lab monitoring more intuitive and effective – streamlining the oversight process yet continuing to ensure laboratories comply with stringent testing standards.

Where the specifier feature is concerned, Uherek explains that it extends beyond mere monitoring capability; it’s about elevating industry quality. He pointed to the importance of fostering connections among new specifiers and promoting awareness of the available resources.

For specifying agencies, having access to ratings and historical data is invaluable, Uherek explained, by not only offering insights into test results but also helping identify potential biases, ultimately impacting project outcomes.

While these tools and features were built with specifying agencies and project owners in mind, they have become a reliable resource for Quality Managers that oversee multiple laboratory locations, Uherek said. That helps reduce time needed to send individual assessment reports and proficiency sample ratings and saves time for those who need to review them, he noted.
