The U.S. Department of Transportation said its Build America Bureau is adding $5 million in grants to its Regional Infrastructure Accelerators Demonstration Program – boosting the program’s total funding to $10 million to help expedite delivery of transportation infrastructure projects at the local and regional level.

The Bureau issued a notice of funding opportunity on January 6 to solicit applications for the second round of “Accelerators” grants.
“The Accelerators [program] will identify and assist high priority projects that can take advantage of the billions of dollars available in the Bureau’s flexible, low-interest loans, providing an innovative financing mechanism to jump start transformative projects and assure they are delivered expeditiously to serve the public,” said Morteza Farajian, the Bureau’s executive director, in a statement.
“We look forward to adding more Accelerators to expedite project development at the local level,” he added.
Five projects shared $5 million worth of grants among them during the first round of Accelerators awards issued in September 2021.
Those recipient projects – located in Fresno, CA; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; San Diego, CA; and Seattle, WA – encompassed everything from rail intermodal complexes, to bridge rehabilitation and electric vehicle infrastructure installation, the Bureau said.
