Rumbaugh talks about WVDOT’s recent modernization efforts following the transition to the administration of Governor Patrick Morrisey (R) – an initiative that is driving the state DOT’s restructuring to incorporate innovative technologies, such as e-ticketing and artificial intelligence, enhancing asset management and communication with the public.
Rumbaugh also shines a spotlight on some of West Virginia’s infrastructure challenges, noting that less than 70 percent of the state’s roadways are in good condition, while more than 10 percent of the state’s bridges rated as poor.
To tackle these issues, WVDOT plans to make significant investments in bridge and road programs, aiming to achieve 70 percent good condition for roadways and reduce bridges in poor condition below 10 percent within the next four years. The department is adopting rapid construction techniques, including accelerated bridge construction and advanced safety measures, to expedite these improvements safely and efficiently.
