In the second episode of the TPM Now! video series, Carlos Braceras – executive director of the Utah Department of Transportation and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials 2018-2019 president – explains the challenges involved with communicating the importance of transportation performance management or TPM practices to state legislators and the general public.
“Right now technology is changing our world in ways that are dramatic. We are all transportation agencies that are data rich but not knowledge rich. We need to be able to take data and convert it into knowledge in a way that is more visual, to communicate complex ideas in simple ways,” he said.
“We are making a business case, making business decisions, with this discipline. This helps us reinforce why we are doing something and the benefits it brings to the people we serve,” Braceras added.
