AASHTO Journal - Utah DOT on Last Leg of I-15 Corridor Project

The Utah Department of Transportation is making the final push to wrap up work its two-year, $415 million I-15 Technology Corridor project later this month, with the construction of a multi-use trail for pedestrians and cyclists – including a new pedestrian bridge and tunnel, and connections to existing local and regional trails – scheduled for completion in mid-November.

The agency said in a statement that project expanded I-15 from four to six lanes, which are now all open; eliminating a major traffic bottleneck by to improve the quality of life for residents and commuters. Completed construction also includes 17 new bridges, designed to last 75 years, and new pavement designed to last 40 years.

The Utah DOT added that the I-15 Technology Corridor is the “final piece” in the reconstruction of I-15 in northern Utah County, as it includes the last section of I-15 to be widened – between Bangerter Highway and Spanish Fork.

That project, along with I-15 CORE, The Point, Access Utah County, and others, helped create a statewide transportation network over the last decade that “allows business to thrive,” the agency said.

Remaining work on the I-15 Corridor project, aside from the multi-use trail, includes the installation of so-called “high mast” lighting, landscaping, traffic cameras and fiber optic connections, noise walls, signs, and pavement markings.
