The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the National Steel Bridge Alliance (NSBA) have jointly released two new steel bridge collaboration publications.

The first is the Specification for Structural Duplex Stainless Steel Bridge Plate Materials, 1st Edition, S18.1–2025. This publication offers a single unified set of guide specifications developed for duplex stainless steel plate girder bridges.
Based on the framework of AASHTO Materials Specification M 270M/M 270 (ASTM A709/A709M), the guide establishes the material requirements for duplex stainless-steel plates used in bridge construction. For more information, click here.
The second publication is the Specification for Design of Structural Duplex Stainless Steel Bridges, 1st Edition, S18.2–2025.
This specification provides design provisions for I-girder bridge superstructures fabricated from duplex stainless steel. While focused on I-girder bridges, the provisions may be adapted for other bridge types by considering the distinct buckling behavior and increased flexibility of duplex stainless-steel members.
