Held in Providence, RI, this April, the AASHTOWare Connect Conference – formerly known as the AASHTO Innovation Summit – offered a unique “Tech Room” that provided users with technical “deep dives” into the new AASHTOWare OpenAPI offering, a data sharing platform.

A division of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, AASHTOWare offers a suite of transportation software products delivered through a collaborative business model with state departments of transportation across the country.

AASHTOWare’s OpenAPI cloud-based platform serves as an application programming interface (API) request hub for routing data between AASHTOWare software installations and other software AASHTO members use.
The AASHTOWare OpenAPI Tech Room allowed AASHTOWare users to explore a wide range of the tool’s capabilities with facilitators in small group and one-on-one settings.
“The Tech Room provided a more intimate setting for users, so they could really take their time delving into the capabilities AASHTOWare OpenAPI offers their operations,” explained Keith Platte, director of AASHTOWare.

Over 120 people attended AASHTOWare Connect this year; a conference that served as a forum for AASHTOWare users and software vendors to come together and navigate the evolving transportation technology landscape, share insights, and foster meaningful connections.
Key topics at the meeting aside from AASHTOWare OpenAPI included how to better connect state department of transportation leaders to share insights of data automation; how to create simpler and more efficient information management process; and how to shape the future of digital delivery for transportation projects.
Other key themes explored how to navigate and create guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence or AI – a tool that is experiencing rapid growth in the transportation sector – and how current and future AASHTOWare data integrations can further benefit state DOTs.
AASHTOWare also honored Charlie Groshens – director of the project data management section and previously the supervisor of the labor compliance unit within the Minnesota Department of Transportation – with its “AASHTOWare Prismatic Legacy Award” at the 2025 Connect meeting in April, as well as the Idaho Transportation Department with the “Most Involved Agency Award” for the 25 agency workers who serve in a variety of volunteer roles within AASHTOWare.
