NOCoE Seeks Submissions for 2022 TSMO Awards

The National Operations Center for Excellence or NOCoE – a partnership of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the Institute for Transportation Engineers, and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, with support from the Federal Highway Administration – is seeking submissions for its 2022 TSMO Award contest.

TSMO – short for Transportation Systems Management and Operations – is a set of strategies that focus on operational improvements that can maintain and even restore the performance of the existing transportation system without adding extra capacity, with a goal of getting the most performance out of existing transportation facilities.

The NOCoE TSMO Awards contest celebrates TSMO strategies and tools that leverage existing infrastructure to increase safety and reliability. To submit an entry, click here. Award submissions are due by December 17.

Winners of the 2021 TSMO contest offer examples of this strategy in action, such as the TSMO Performance Program and Traffic Operations Analytics Tool created by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation or the Comprehensive Work Zone Management Program developed by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

NOCoE added that its TSMO Awards program is open to cities, counties, state departments of transportation, metropolitan planning organizations or MPOs, and private sector organizations.

Contest entrants should highlight a successful TSMO project undertaken in the last five years that provided a clear benefit to the traveling public. Judges will select winners for each of the four categories, with an overall TSMO winner selected from the four category victors.
