AASHTO Journal - New Vice Chair for AASHTO Performance Committee

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has named Jean Wallace (seen above), interim deputy commissioner and chief engineer for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, to a two-year term as vice chair of its Committee on Performance-Based Management.

Performance management helps guide critical decision making for a state transportation agency, from planning through systems operations, including the agency’s own organizational performance.

The committee addresses all aspects of performance management including asset, organizational, risk, and system mobility and emerging technologies as it relates to federal regulations, current industry practices, as well as new approaches and concepts.

Employed at Minnesota DOT since 2008, Wallace worked for more than 14 years with the Federal Highway Administration in various locations throughout the United States, including in Colorado as a senior operations engineer, in Virginia as a research highway engineer, and in Pennsylvania as a pavement and materials engineer.

Wallace holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota, is a registered professional engineer in Minnesota, and holds a Master’s certificate as well as an Associate’s certificate in project management from the George Washington University. She is also a certified project management professional through the Project Management Institute.
