Johnson replaces Galen McGill from the Oregon Department of Transportation, who retired after a 38-year career with the agency.

NOCoE is a partnership of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the Institute for Transportation Engineers, and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, with support from the Federal Highway Administration.

The unique mix of state, local, academic, and private sector representation is a key feature of NOCoE and ensures its ability to provide knowledge resources that effectively advance all aspects of Transportation Systems Management and Operations or TSMO.

Johnson has over 27 years of engineering experience, first at a consulting firm and then at Michigan DOT with various roles in design, traffic and safety, operations, and management. He also served as an officer in the U.S. Army, both in counterintelligence and with the airborne infantry, including three years of overseas duty in Iraq and South Korea.

Johnson is also active on various statewide committees as well as AASHTO committees, including as chair of AASHTO’s Committee on Knowledge Management. He is also a member of the Professional Advisory Board for civil, environmental, and geospatial engineering at Michigan Technological University from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering.
