The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has appointed Emily McGraw (above) – director of highway operations for the North Carolina Department of Transportation – as the vice chair for its Committee on Maintenance.

The AASHTO Committee on Maintenance develops, maintains, and disseminates appropriate information through guidelines, manuals, specifications, and other resources to address the maintenance, preservation, and operation of all classes of highways and categories of assets under the jurisdiction of its member departments.
In her current position, McGraw – a more than 26-year NCDOT veteran – directs operations in the agency’s operations unit, roadside environmental unit, structures management unit, as well as its business and asset management unit.
She has served in several engineering positions at NCDOT, including state maintenance engineer, state maintenance operations engineer, bridge preservation engineer, pavement preservation engineer, and pavement design engineer.
Not only has McGraw served on AASHTO’s Committee on Maintenance, has served on several National Cooperative Highway Research Program research panels as well. She is an active member of the Women’s Transportation Seminar and is a graduate of the AASHTO Executive Leadership Institute.
McGraw – who, with her husband Rob, has two children – received both a Bachelor and a Master of Science degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University. She is a licensed professional engineer and a certified public manager.
