The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently hosted a reopening ceremony for the Fishing Creek Bridge, which underwent an $8.6 million rehabilitation effort.

The bridge carries Kentucky Highway 80 and more than 5,200 motorists daily across Fishing Creek – a tributary of Lake Cumberland. First opened in 1951, the agency kicked off a renovation and repair project in November 2024 – closing the structure to all traffic to install a new deck, rail, and floor beams.

[Editor’s note: In April, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (D) highlighted the award of $8.2 million via the second round of funding from the state’s County and City Bridge Improvement Program to 22 bridge projects.]
The project modernized the bridge’s structural components while preserving its historic integrity, KYTC added.
Although now open to traffic after completing the 185-day rehabilitation endeavor, the agency said the bridge remains an “active construction zone” while “finishing touches” are made to the improved structure.
“Reliable, well-maintained and robust transportation infrastructure not only provides safe passage for Kentuckians – it connects them to opportunities,” said KYTC Secretary Jim Gray in a statement. “We are fortunate enough to revitalize this bridge so it can continue to serve this community for years to come.”
