The Kansas Department of Transportation recently updated its traveler information website, KanDrive.org, to provide motorists driving through the state with more user-friendly and timely details so they can make better travel decisions.
“The new KanDrive website is easier to use and includes more features that will help drivers as they travel Kansas highways,” noted Julie Lorenz, Kansas DOT secretary, in a statement.
“Having access to the latest road condition information is important for travelers as it helps people get where they want to go and keeps the Kansas economy moving,” she said.
The improvements to KanDrive include the ability to create personalized accounts to save favorite routes/areas; e-mail alerts on specific highways; a commercial vehicle mode for truck drivers; and the ability to share individual event reports, road conditions, or vehicle camera streams via Facebook, Twitter, or e-mail.
The Kansas DOT added that the “commercial vehicle mode” for truck drivers allows companies to create text/e-mail alerts designed around highly traveled routes, weigh stations and rest areas – including details regarding bridge heights, weight capacity, roadway widths and speeds.
The agency added that the updated KanDrive site delivers information to users quickly and clearly and is more mobile-friendly as it adapts to screens of all sizes.
Kansas DOT is also now updating traffic reports to the KanDrive site 24/7, including maintenance and construction activities, winter highway conditions, flooded roadways, incidents and crashes affecting traffic and closed highways.
