AASHTO Journal - Job Opening: AASHTO Seeks Program Director for Transportation Finance

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials currently seeks to hire a program director for transportation finance at its Washington, D.C., headquarters

Under the leadership of AASHTO’s policy director, the program director for transportation finance leads the management and operation of the organization’s BATIC Institute, which promotes effective financing and implementation of surface transportation programs, projects, and policies by state and local agencies through training in the use of tools and decision-making processes, sharing of best practices, and technical assistance.

The program director will also serve as a staff liaison to the Committee on Funding and Financing and its three subcommittees – Policy & Rulemaking, Capacity Building, and Research. The job position requires regular engagement with project finance and transportation stakeholders to build partnerships and promote the interests of the association.

Candidates are required to have a minimum of seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience, with at least two years in the field of surface transportation at the federal, state, or local level of government. Prior experience in project management is desirable and a bachelor’s degree is required, with evidence of a higher degree of professional development, such as postgraduate education, preferred.

Applicants should also have a broad understanding of federal and state transportation policy, along with project planning, budgeting, and management skills. Candidates for this position should also have experience with contract administration and financial reporting, as well as a basic understanding of capital markets, institutions, and state-of-the-art financial instruments.
