The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials recently released 2022 interim revisions for its “Guide Specifications for Internal Redundancy of Mechanically-Fastened Built-up Steel Members, 1st Edition,” originally published in 2018.

This set of guide specifications provides engineers with a reliable tool to assess the internal redundancy of steel bridge members traditionally classified as fracture-critical members.
AASHTO said its 2022 interim revisions to this guide increase the library of simplified solutions that enable more efficient and convenient evaluations of common axially loaded tension members.
