The Federal Transit Administration has awarded $545,000 to California-based sustainable transportation research firm CALSTART, as part of a cooperative agreement to administer the agency’s new Research to Practice or R2P Initiative.

The goal is to identify the best ways to promote FTA’s research so transit agencies can put promising results into practice, the agency said in a statement.

FTA said the R2P initiative would help it advance innovation by “effectively communicating” the results of FTA’s most promising research findings across the transit industry, while also developing transit strategies to put successful results from that research into practice.

CALSTART plans to collaborate with the National Transportation Center at Morgan State University, a historically black university, and the University of Florida’s Transportation Institute, to accomplish the goals of FTA’s new initiative.
