In his column, Jim Tymon, AASHTO’s executive director, discussed the organization’s policy positions on the next surface transportation funding reauthorization bill.

A feature story in the magazine highlighted the winners of the 2024 America’s Transportation Awards contest – the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the West Virginia Department of Transportation – while another article detailed a Monarch Butterfly Protection Project launched by the Texas Department of Transportation.

Finally, a story reviewed a roundtable session held in January at the 2025 Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., featured a cross section of state DOT chief executives discussing how the state DOT community is making safety a core focus of the infrastructure work under their purview.

That session also delved into how making the nation’s road network safer for all roadway users – including pedestrians, bicyclists, highway workers, and others.
