The award-winning “Arizona Highways” magazine published by the Arizona Department of Transportation recently debuted a new digital archive that contains every issue, photograph, and article published by the magazine over its 100-year history.

The digital archive – created as part of the celebration of the magazine’s centennial anniversary – aims to highlight Arizona’s scenery, culture, and history over the last several decades.

“Some of the original issues are treasures, and you’ll see people selling those copies for shocking amounts,” explained Robert Stieve, the magazine’s editor, in a statement. “Now that we have the digital archives, that gives people access to see all of that historical content.”

Arizona DOT stressed that the magazine is not produced with taxpayer funding. Rather, all costs for personnel, production and operations are covered by proceeds from diversified business lines under its brand umbrella, including annual calendars, books, a specialty license plate, gift items, and licensing for a television program and gift shops at two airports.
