AASHTO re:source – a technical service program offered by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials – recently updated its Accreditation Program Procedures or AAP Manual; an 18-page guide that presents the Accreditation Program’s processes in a new format that is easier to read and understand.

AASHTO re:source provides services and tools through three major programs: the Laboratory Assessment Program, the Proficiency Sample Program or PSP, and the AASHTO Accreditation Program or AAP.

In a statement, AASHTO re:source said the new version of its AAP manual integrates old procedures with newer policy and guidance documents issued on its website. It also includes helpful links that can take the reader to other documents or websites to learn more regarding particular accreditation trends in the construction materials industry.
Other additions to the new manual resulted from work by the AASHTO re:source Administrative Task Group or ATG, which established precedents that had previously not been stated directly in order to promote transparency.
Other important topics are also explained more in depth, including confidentiality, external complaints, refusal of service, and information about certificates of accreditation, accreditation directory listings, and how to properly promote laboratory accreditation.
Finally, due to the release of the new AAP Manual, several older policy and guidance documents were retired and others revised. While there will still be policy and guidance documents that explain some of the requirements in greater detail, the intent is to incorporate the requirements into the procedures manual where possible.
