AASHTO Taps Utah DOT’s Economy as CKM Vice Chair

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has named Lorri Economy (above) – chief learning officer for the Utah Department of Transportation – to a two-year term as vice chair of the organization’s Committee on Knowledge Management or CKM.

Economy has been a long-time active member of the CKM, leading the planning for all of the CKM’s annual meetings. She is also active on the corresponding Committee on Information and Knowledge Management within the Transportation Research Board.

A 17-year veteran of Utah DOT, Economy’s primary responsibility as chief learning officer is to create and enhance all talent management functions within the organization. In that role, she lays the foundation of the learning and employee development function, which includes onboarding, skill development, knowledge management, leadership development, talent management, and career planning.

Economy also previously served as training manager for the agency, overseeing the development of learning and development programs for the maintenance and construction divisions, focusing on improving the transportation technician education program.

Economy holds a Master’s in Public Administration, with an emphasis on public policy, along with a second Master’s in Organizational Performance and Change. Before joining Utah DOT, she worked as a training manager for Family Dollar Distribution and a program specialist for the Utah Department of Workforce Services. She began her career working for the National Park Service.
