The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has promoted Susan Howard (seen above) to be the organization’s new director of policy and government relations.
She starts in her new role on February 14, reporting to Joung Lee, AASHTO’s deputy director-chief policy officer.
Howard – who joined AASHTO in 2018 – previously served as the organization’s program manager for freight and program director for transportation finance.
In her new role, she will provide leadership and oversight for AASHTO’s policy and government relations activities including development and implementation of legislation, regulation, policy, and guidance that advance policy interests of the state departments of transportation.
Howard will also continue to serve as primary liaison to the AASHTO Committee on Funding and Finance and help support the organization’s Transportation Policy Forum.
Howard joined AASHTO after a five-year stint as director of government relations and legislative affairs for the National Association of Development Organizations. She also spent six years as the federal legislative programs coordinator for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
