The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, an equal opportunity employer, seeks to hire a director of policy and government relations – a full-time position located at AASHTO’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The position became available following the promotion of Joung Lee to become AASHTO’s deputy director-chief policy officer on November 22.
The director of policy and government relations position provides leadership and oversight for AASHTO’s transportation policy and government relations activities. Duties include development and implementation of legislation, regulation, policy, and guidance that advance policy interests of the state departments of transportation.
The position also provides direct support to AASHTO’s councils or committees and handles the day-to-day needs of AASHTO’s policy and government relations division.
A minimum of 10 years of transportation policy is also required, including the development and maintenance of close working relationships with key officials in the executive and legislative branches of the federal government.
Applicants should also possess a broad understanding of all modes of transportation at the federal, state and/or local level of government and an in-depth knowledge of at least one transportation mode.
