AASHTO Releases New Concrete Reinforcement Guide

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has released a new publication: Guide for Design and Construction of Near-Surface Mounted Titanium Alloy Bars for Strengthening Concrete Structures, 1st Edition.

The organization this new guide provides design and construction recommendations for strengthening existing reinforced concrete structures with titanium alloy bars – known as TiABs – using the near-surface mounted or NSM construction method.

The design recommendations included in AASHTO’s new guide provide for shear and flexural strengthening and are adapted from the AASHTO’s Load & Resistance Factor Design or LRFD bridge design specifications.

The new guidelines are supported by experimental and analytical research, as well as field experience demonstrating that success of applying TiABs for strengthening full-scale specimens typical of bridge girders, AASHTO noted.

The organization said the new guide is available online from the AASHTO Store and can be purchased by clicking here.
