The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials – an equal opportunity employer – is beginning recruitment for two positions, both full-time, with the organization’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The first position is for program specialist for engineering, which provides program support to AASHTO’s engineering director and the organization’s engineering division as a whole. The position also provides support to several committees and technical service programs within the division, while also assisting with staffing the Special Committee on Route Numbering and other engineering committees.
Job duties include maintaining the membership database for the engineering committees, and compiles and collects information in order to keep the member department information updated on the Engineering committee web sites.
The incumbent has responsibility for solicitations and surveys, and prepares electronic ballots for the Council on Highways and Streets, the Special Committee on Research and Innovation, other engineering committees, and the various engineering technical service programs. The incumbent tabulates ballot results and distributes the information to staff and AASHTO member departments.

The second position is for a program specialist for policy and government relations. This position involves collaboration with key AASHTO partners such as Congress, federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Transportation, and various transportation industry associations, under supervision of the director of policy and government relations.
Job duties include gathering, synthesizing, and communicating information to members of AASHTO’s Transportation Policy Forum – the association’s key policymaking body – and to committees and various groups within AASHTO.
Activities may include organizing, developing, and staffing virtual and in-person meetings; coordinating state DOT members to discuss proposed federal actions; assisting in planning and implementing national conferences, training workshops, webcasts, webinars, and meetings with state DOTs and partner organizations, and; maintenance and improvements of the AASHTO Policy Portal and related websites.
