AASHTO said these guidelines provide bridge engineers and owners with information on best practices on the application of duplex coating systems to extend the service life of steel bridges.

The use of the two methods provides a synergistic effect that, when done well, can increase confidence in a positive life-cycle value of these systems and multiply the individual service life of each coating exceeding the sum of each of their individual service lives, the organization noted.

These guidelines are designed to complement AASHTO’s Guide Specification for Service Life Design of Highway Bridges, 1st Edition, (Item Code: HBSLD-1), and AASHTO-National Steel Bridge Alliance Hot-Dip Galvanizing SpecificationS8.3-2022 (Item Code: NSBAHD-1).
