New Hampshire Department of Transportation Commissioner Victoria Sheehan’s election in October 2020 as president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation made her only the second woman in the association’s 107-year history to hold that position.
In the presidential profile video below, AASHTO traces Sheehan’s roots to Ireland, where she said her love for engineering and transportation were born.
Sheehan earned a master’s degree in Structural Engineering and Architecture from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland before going on to land a job at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Her impressive career now includes serving a second term as New Hampshire DOT Commissioner and as AASHTO’s President for 2020-2021.
In this video, Sheehan also discusses her presidential emphasis areas, as well as ongoing challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. She also highlights the critical role state DOT personnel continue to play in the national campaign against the COVID-19 virus.
