The organization said this publication, which is free, provides “comprehensive guidance” on best practices for the design, detailing, and fabrication of redundant and non-redundant steel bent caps that provide “intermediate support” between bridge spans – transferring and resisting the vertical lateral stresses placed on bridges during events such as earthquakes and wind storms from the bridge’s superstructure to its foundation.

To order a copy, visit the online AASHTO Store and search by the publication’s item code, NSBASBC-1. For a direct link to this guide at the AASHTO Store site, click here.

These new guidelines are part of the AASHTO-National Steel Bridge Alliance publication series, whereby AASHTO and NSBA work together to develop specifications, codes, standards, and policies to unify the existing diverse requirements governing steel bridge construction.

All AASHTO–NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration publications are available to download, free of charge, at the online AASHTO Store.
