AASHTO’s CTSSR committee – which is chaired by Vicki Kramer, director of the Nebraska Department of Transportation – seeks to help state departments of transportation prepare for and respond to both natural and human-made threats, shocks, and stressors to the U.S. transportation system.

In her role at the Maryland DOT, Hertz – who has worked for nearly 20 years for the agency and its Maryland State Highway Administration division in a variety of environmental-related roles – manages climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives, including de-carbonization strategies and resilience improvement plans.

She also represents Maryland DOT on several multi-agency workgroups and councils, such as the Chesapeake Bay Cabinet, the Transportation Resilience Coalition within the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Maryland Commission on Climate Change

A graduate of Townson University with a degree in biology, Hertz also holds a Climate Change Professional Certification from the Association of Climate Change Officers and the State of Maryland.
