The board of directors of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials passed a resolution on November 13 honoring the Transportation Research Board’s 100th anniversary.
“On the occasion of the 100th anniversary, AASHTO reaffirms its strong support for the TRB’s programs and looks forward to a strong partnership between AASHTO and TRB for the next 100 years,” the organization said in its resolution.
AASHTO noted that TRB “serves an important professional development opportunity for many thousands of employees of state departments of transportation,” who in turn “benefit greatly from adopting and implementing research results either developed by TRB or presented by others through TRB’s annual meeting, conferences, workshops, and committee meetings.”
AASHTO added that TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program – funded through voluntary contributions from state DOTs – and whose governing and project selection board is the AASHTO Special Committee on Research and Innovation, continues to produce “many research results” that have served as the basis for AASHTO specifications, policies, and manuals.
