The Federal Transit Administration issued a $28.22 million grant to the City of El Paso to support completion of its Montana Rapid Transit Service Corridor project on March 13, while activating $11 million in grant funding to support and advance innovation in the transit industry on March 18.

The Montana RTS Corridor project is a 16.8-mile Bus Rapid Transit or BRT project with a total price tag of $49.2 million. FTA said it is providing a $28.22 million grant through its Capital Investment Grants program
Meanwhile, the notice of funding opportunity issued by FTA for $11 million in transit innovation grants is part of the Accelerating Innovative Mobility or AIM initiative the agency launched in January.
The AIM grants are designed to help transit agencies explore new service models that provide more efficient and frequent service, which will help retain riders. As a funding partner, FTA’s grants will help alleviate the potential risks involved in adopting new technologies and practices, noted K. Jane Williams, the agency’s acting administrator.
“As we enter the next decade, we need to focus on the importance of innovation and meeting the expectations of our riders,” she said. “We have made innovation the center of our mission to improve public transportation across America’s communities.”
