AASHTO Journal - Strickler Set to Become Oregon DOT Director

After a six-month search process, the Oregon Transportation Commission selected Kris Strickler (seen above) to be the next director of the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Currently the agency’s highway division administrator, Strickler joined the Oregon DOT in 2018 after serving as the southwest region administrator for the Washington State Department of Transportation as part of a 20-plus year career in the transportation field.

Strickler, who holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Washington State University, said in a statement that he is “eager to lead the agency in this dramatic time of growth in our state and to work to modernize our transportation network, diversify the department’s workforce, and bring innovative solutions to achieve Oregon’s transportation, environmental and economic goals.”

If confirmed by the Oregon Senate, Strickler would become the 12^th director in the agency’s history.

“Kris has made a big impact on the Oregon DOT in his short tenure at the agency,” said Governor Kate Brown (D) in a statement.

“He has driven the agency’s vision for how to address the complex mobility needs of our region and brings strong interstate partnerships to bear,” she added. “He’s the right person to help the Oregon DOT continue its transformation, and I am looking forward to his continued and expanded leadership.”
