AASHTO Seeks Program Manager for Transit Policy

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, an equal-opportunity employer, seeks to hire a Program Manager for Transit Policy; a full-time position located at the organization’s Washington, D.C., office.

The Program Manager for Transit Policy position manages the policy and technical activities of the AASHTO Council on Public Transportation under the supervision of the Program Director for Multimodal Transportation; providing transit-related technical assistance to the member state departments of transportation.

Job duties include preparation of quarterly newsletter and announcements/alerts as needed; maintenance of the council’s website including updating and maintaining the state directory; administration of monthly steering committee conference calls; and support for the AASHTO Transit Management program’s technical activities in coordination with external partner organizations including the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), American Public Transportation Association, National Rural Transportation Association, Community Transportation Association, and Transportation Research Board.

The Program Manager is also responsible for ensuring robust membership recruitment, renewal, and satisfaction by developing membership kits, conducting satisfaction surveys, and administering travel and logistics for two national conferences and other meetings with input and assistance from the AASHTO Transit Management Steering Committee. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for monitoring the AASHTO Transit Management program budget and individual state travel accounts.

Candidates applying for this position should have a minimum of six years of professional experience – with experience working for a state DOT transit agency, FTA, public transit organization, or comparable transportation experience at the federal, state, or local level desired – along with prior experience in project management.

Additionally, a general understanding of the federal and state transportation policies, regulations, procedures, and practice is required, along with proficiency in word-processing software packages with experience in graphics, spreadsheets and the operation of conventional business equipment.

A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in urban planning, public policy, public administration, or another transportation related field, with evidence of a higher degree of professional development, such as postgraduate education, is desirable.
