The 2026 Safety Summit will again feature many peer exchange opportunities that seek to help state departments of transportation network with safety practitioners from across the transportation industry. This annual conference – now in its fourth year – will also feature a number of sessions co-hosted by other AASHTO committees focused on a wide variety of safety topics, from how to design safer transportation systems to ways to improve highway worker safety.

The 2026 Safety Summit will present a diverse and practical program with sessions designed to have a primary format of interaction and conversation among participants, presenters, panelists, and moderators. The mix of plenary and concurrent sessions will provide opportunities for discussion on national topics of joint interest and more in-depth program-level peer exchange conversations.

New for the 2026 Safety Summit is an AASHTO Committee on Safety business meeting, which will be held in the evening of September 27 before the conference officially begins on September 28, to discuss priorities and activities for the rest of 2026 and beyond.

Finally, on the evening of September 29, AASHTOWare – a division of  AASHTO that offers a suite of software products delivered through a collaborative business model with state DOTs – will host an AASHTOWare Safety by Numetric workshop.

That package – the result of a safety software alliance AASHTOWare formed with Numetric in 2020 – is a traffic safety analytics tool built on a “software-as-a-service” or SaaS platform.
