Hosted by the AASHTO Census Transportation Solutions or ACTS program, this is typically held the year after the release of a new dataset for the five-year Census Transportation Planning Package or CTPP and offers an opportunity to exchange knowledge and share learnings from this new dataset.
This conference will also feature a half-day training exercise to introduce attendees to the core features of CTPP data, as well as the fundamentals of how to access and utilize it. The meeting also offers an exclusive session for state departments of transportation that are members of the ACTS program; a session providing important program updates and tips on how to best take advantage of their ACTS membership.
Topics of other sessions at the conference include the impact of privacy rules on census and CTPP data; the development of future products that use modeled data from this census dataset; why CTPP is the “gold standard” for travel data in the era of big data products; interactive demonstrations of application program interfaces or APIs and other data access tools; and how to use CTPP data for transit and active transportation research.
Speakers at the Census Transportation Planning Conference include Samantha Biddle, chair of the ACTS board and deputy secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation; Michael Pack, director of the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Laboratory or CATT Lab; and Nate Walters, assistant division chief for the Social, Economic, and Housing Statistics Division at the U.S. Census Bureau.
