These new guidelines are part of the AASHTO-NSBA publication series, whereby AASHTO and NSBA work together to develop specifications, codes, standards, and policies to unify the existing diverse requirements governing steel bridge construction.
The new “Steel Bridge Fabrication QC/QA Guidelines, G4.1-2025” establish potential minimum requirements for a fabricator’s quality control (QC) program and an owner’s quality assurance (QA) program, emphasizing the development and implementation of a comprehensive quality management system for fabricators.
The publication provides clear guidance to owner agencies, fabricators, and contractors on maintaining consistent inspection and verification practices that ensure the quality and reliability of steel bridge fabrication.
The guidelines also offer information complementary to applicable welding codes and American Institute of Steel Construction or AISC standards, serving as a valuable resource for developing a Fabricator Quality Management System and a corresponding Quality System Manual.
The focus of these updated guidelines is to improve clarity, consistency, and usability for steel bridge fabrication and inspection personnel.
